Link baking is a content marketing and SEO tactic in which the marketer includes another party in the creation of the content, thus “baking in” a backlink. It’s the opposite of link building.

When link baking is done properly, all parties involved in creating the content share in creation of the content and/or marketing of the content from early on in the process. In that manner, “asking” for a backlink is not simply a tactic to satisfy the search engine algorithm, it’s a process that includes each of the parties to make the content better and improve outreach.

Link baking is a digital marketing term coined by Dan Holmes.
